#52 - AUTUMN SUNSET

Hi! So my mum and I made a cake together this past weekend. I've been looking at rainbow cakes/ red velvet cakes recently and was just itching for some. U can have a look at Cupcake Jemma's rainbow cake, it was totes uhmazing. ;P Plus, my mum wanted to bake something and to try something new. So, we present to you Autumn Sunset cake. *hits cymbals*

- -

We didn't have that many colors of the rainbow so we made do with what we had. Orange, pink and purple were our best options. We used a butter cake recipe which me and my bro loved! To create this cake, we had to split the batter into 3 portions and color each one individually.

The making of the batter was easy. The coloring and measuring were the more tiring ones. What I mean by tiring was how we had to be precise in our coloring because we wanted a specific color. The measuring plays a big role because we wanted each layer to come out the same way evenly and equal. So, more details had to be looked into these two areas.

Overall, the outcome turned out good! The cake was tasty and firm. The layer of cream cheese blended well with the cake as it wasn't too sweet but was a nice touch to end off the bite.

Thanks for reading and be blessed, x.

#50 - OCTOBER // CHOC CHIP COOKIES

Hi there! It's October already and i'm gonna start school soon. I had a wonderful holiday for the past month & i wouldn't deem it as "rotting" away but relaxing. Hehehehe. I love when the year is coming to an end because it's autumn/winter, (not that Singapore has 4 seasons) but something about those seasons makes me happy. Did I mention I love autumn/winter style as well? Just something about layers, denim, coats, boots (urgh) make me tingle inside. ^^ Anyway, I'm praying for a wonderful, restful and enjoyable semester for my last year in school.

//

Yes, I have another foodie post today. I decided to make chocolate chip cookies out of the blue. Idk why, i just felt like it...I guess we all have those days where you just spontaneously feel like doing/eating something right? Although the recipe turned out a little too sweet and the cookies too wide, it was still edible. A sweet treat for tea/snacking. Hope you like it? :)

I do upload my photos all on my tumblr photoblog so if you'll like to check them out,

#49 - EAT WITH ME

Hi. I've kept these photos in my folder, just waiting for the right time to post them. So, I thought it'll be a good time to share it on my blog.

//

My mum makes delicious carrot cakes. I mean their the best i've ever tasted. Since I'm no food critique, maybe you'll like to try them for yourself? :) drop me an email!

Also, her cinammon buns are delicious. I don't think I could get sick of it. Kinda craving for it right now.

Lastly, I made pancakes for breakfast one morning and they turned out super nice. Not to brag.....but...they are really good. It goes well with chocolates/fresh fruits or bacon/eggs. Plus, super easy to make.

So, what do you think of this series? Let me know.
Be blessed and thanks for reading, x.

#45 - WOODLOOP

Hey eh eh! I made a trip down with my parents to Woodlands Loop/Terrace last Saturday. We heard of this cake shop which apparently was on some Channel 8 show so we decided to check it out. Located in an industrial area, there are many factories who are housed there. We even saw this guy buy off two bean curds directly from a staff in the kitchen. I was like "Wah, like that also can." Yes, can.

Puff pastries, bazhang (rice dumplings), curry puffs are just some of the foods made/sold. Once I exited the lift at Level 5, I could already smell the bazhang. It was a pleasant smell. I like it. really like it.

Eclairs, cheesecakes, cream puffs, pineapple tarts are just some of the food sold. There were so many people in the shop that there was barely enough space to open the fridge. T_T After which, we walked down to Woodlands Terrace where many food wholesalers are. The two more well-known ones are Fassler and Melvados. Fassler sells seafood stuff like fresh salmon and seafood soups whereas Melvados sells cakes, ice cream and more western stuff.

In Fassler, visitors get the chance to be in a cold room where all the frozen seafood are kept for sale. I always look forward to going in because it's like experiencing the North Pole in Singapore. The kids all love going in because its chilling fun. (geddit?) cos it's a CHILLer... -_-'''

I think it was really God that led us to Melvados on that day because it was the only day they were having a sample buffet. Like so many people were just holding toothpicks and stabbing the tiny cakes which ranged from brownies to carrot cakes. IT DOESN'T END THERE GUYS. They have black pepper smoked duck, tandoori chicken, cheese baked rice, clam chowder soup. LIKE YOUR LUNCH SETTLE ALREADY. You can see so many people just queuing over and over again just to eat all the samples. HAHAHAHA I was thinking "just take the whole tray home la."

I can never forget there was this one dude that was so gangster. Everyone was using toothpicks but guess what he used? SATAY STICK. I was like this dude.... genius man. Don't fight for the last piece with this guy cos his stick is longer than yours. (that's what she said) but seriously I was laughing along with my dad! He definitely has more experience. We went to buy pesto because my bro loves it and we also bought Soursop sorbet ;)

(more pictures @ http://foxusphotos.tumblr.com)

Usually these wholesalers will only open for half a day so try to go before 12PM if you want to explore because there is a lot of walking. Bring along your shades, extra bags (for the goods) and water bottle. If you wanna try the samples from Melvados, go on the last Saturday of every month!

Have a great weekend! Thanks for reading.
Be blessed, x.

#43 - SUSHI

Hey y'all! For lunch on Saturday, I made myself S U S H I! It was delicious and my first ever experience making one. It definitely is an art form making the perfect sushi which obviously, mine isn't. The ones professionally made are always colorful and so appetizing mmmmmmm... :P

I've always loved Japanese cuisine and I decided on sushi because we had rice in the fridge as well as seaweed on the side. I made 2 types - chicken and veggie maki's. Simple ingredients I used were capsicums, mushrooms, onions, eggs, carrots and pop corn chicken. The maki's are inspired by the ones I ate at Maki San :) Since I'm on the topic of sushi, I highly recommend Maki San for your own personalized sushi and Koh Grill and Sushi Bar for the heavenly, out of this earth Shiok Maki.

#39 - Did you say food?

Yknow, after taking my last paper, I somehow don't get the feeling that I am on a holiday. I mean, I sleep in late and wake up when the sun has risen past the buildings but I don't feel free. I figure it's because I have interviews coming and meetings for FYP thus the feels. Anyhoo, I really miss Tiong Bahru and all the great spots that are so picture perfect. oh, not to mention the FOOD; 'cos like helloooo when you're Singaporean, food is essential and food is life. Here's part II of the trip!

#38 - District Hipster

It was a workout - both physically and on my tummy. We tried to explore Tiong Bahru where it is said to be the home ground for hipsters, non-mainstream decor and good food. (the important word to note here is TRIED. I bet you missed that.) Stepping out of Tiong Bahru Plaza and about a 3 minute walk, I started seeing buildings from the past. Not more than 3 storey buildings greeted us amongst the construction of high-risers and then I couldn't put down my camera. It's hard to believe sometimes that these places still exist in Singapore and it would be a shame if our future generation don't get to see it.

Old letterboxes.
I wonder how the post man slots the letters into them.

#28 - SALMON BAKED RICE

Hey yo! How are you guys? Good? I've been pretty busy this week and will continue to be for the following weeks but it's okay! At least, I'm doing something productive and learning stuff!

So, on Sunday mum, me and my bro made lunch together. We have this thing where we make food that my dad wouldn't usually eat when it's just the 3 of us at home. It's called #onepansundays ! Why? It's because we usually throw the ingredients into one pan and eat from there.

It was super duper yummy!!!!! Food-gasm overloadz. We had the left side mixed with egg and the other with cheese. For this dish, I'll have to go with the cheesy side. Obviously. (:

Today, my family and I had planned to explore Little Guilin but unfortunately when we arrived it rained. I was a little disappointed but I decided to take it with a pinch of salt and treated the rest of the day as an adventure. (I guess I was influenced by Ben and Louis) I really feel that time is flying and I have no time to do so many things so with every time I have, it shall be an adventure and a good experience! Even though we didn't get to have a picnic, we got to spend time together which is always the best time. (:

Guilin pictures will be up on Insta so follow me or check me out if you want! @shemetjoe

Stay fabulous,

#26 - My milkshake brings...

..All you people to my blog. HA HA. Okay so yes I'll be talking about milkshake but not chocolate or strawberry OR vanilla but A.V.O.C.A.D.O!!!!!! YAY!!!! You can probably tell that I really love the fruit. Yes, in fact I really enjoy eating them/drinking them because they go well with salads, sandwiches, facial washes(?) and milkshakes of course. I recently made an avocado milkshake for myself and here's how.

- - -

I think that this beverage is something easy that everyone can make and certain ingredients are things that most people would already have!

Milk is an essential part of this beverage because not only does it allow the avocado to be sipped on, it makes it easier to blend and it's also good for your bones. Depending on how many avocados you use, the end product should be thick rather than liquid. Also, you can choose to add any amount of milk to your preference. At the end of the day, it's all about your own taste, right? Personally, I added 1 cup of milk to 1 avocado. So ratio is 1:1 .

Sugar is what tingles the taste buds. I feel that avocado has a nutty kind of taste to it but it's neither sweet nor sour. Adding sugar will make a big difference to the drink so add however you prefer. I prefer the in-between where I can taste the nuttiness of the avocado and the slight sweetness of the sugar. In case you were wondering what the brown stuff is you see on the authentically made drinks, it's gula melaka. So, I am just replacing that with sugar.

Last but not least, Avocado. I bought 3 at one shot from the supermarket and two of them were unripe. I waited for them to ripen before using and once the skin turns brown, it's appropriate to use them. After slicing the avocado into half, I twisted them and pulled the halves apart and since all I needed were the flesh, I took out the seed. I had no idea that you needed SKILL to pull the seed out so I'm going to pass down my knowledge like how shifu did to Po.

With half an avocado in your hand, take the knife and chop down on the seed. Once the knife is stuck to the seed (not your fingers), twist it and it SHOULD come out. Be very careful because I don't want it turning into a halloween prank. After this, just dig the flesh out with a spoon and throw it into the blender together with the ice, sugar and milk!

& here I have mine in a not so limited edition coca cola cup from the Olympics season very nicely decorated by my mum with a straw! yay! I think mine came out pretty good so it was a success :)

I hope you guys are having a wonderful mid-week.
Stay fabulous!
