#44 - NIGHT LIGHTS

Hello night owls. I went for a theatre show recently titled #UnicornMoment by Checkpoint Theatre starring Shu An. Now, I entered the room with low expectations not thinking that I'll come out with feeling the total opposite. Like what in the world did I just watch?? That was AMAZING! Let me elaborate.

First, I've never heard of Checkpoint Theatre. Second, I didn't think Shu An could act because I've only ever seen her on TV doing variety programs like Tried & Tested for example. Anyway, the lights dimmed and Shu An comes out re-enacting scenes or moments of her hosting gigs before getting her game face on and brings us on a journey of her story. Not only was the story humorous but it was real and relatable. I felt as if she was acting the story of my life, it was so SO similar. Getting angry at my parents at certain annoying things they do but only to love them even more because of it and laughing it off. Going to my Ahma's place only to speak to her for a while before getting distracted by technology only to realize that it was pointless to make a trip there if I am going to do the things I could've done at home. (In short, I didn't spend time with my Ahma.) The world telling you to be yourself, be yourself, JUST BE YOURSELF only to realize that 'myself' is defined by society. Putting my trust in others only to have trust thrusted back in your face.

Personally, I found the set so simple but well-used. It was the set, a character, a stage and a screen. One thing I caught was how she opened one of the doors and it showed a warm orange light. Silence descended upon the audience and you can feel the mental gasps like 'wo...wo..woah.' LIKE THAT ALSO CAN. Shu An's acting was really on point. She made me laugh so hard and sometimes making it hard to hold back my tears. Is it okay if I say she is one person to look out for in the theatre scene? (I said it anyways. lol)

All in all, if this were to be ever shown again, I recommend y'all to go watch it. :)

After the show, me and A went up to the roof terrace 'cos I've never been up there. Again, I was amazed by how beautiful this part of Singapore could be. I was smart enough to have brought my camera but not so in bringing an extra battery. pft. Anyhow, I still managed to capture something.

We had a talk about life, work, people, dreams and relationships. I guess the skyline really does something to you. It just gives you the feels and makes it the perfect time to connect to someone on a deeper level.

Cheers, friend.

Here's wishing you night owls a restful holiday.
Thanks for reading and be blessed, x.

#38 - District Hipster

It was a workout - both physically and on my tummy. We tried to explore Tiong Bahru where it is said to be the home ground for hipsters, non-mainstream decor and good food. (the important word to note here is TRIED. I bet you missed that.) Stepping out of Tiong Bahru Plaza and about a 3 minute walk, I started seeing buildings from the past. Not more than 3 storey buildings greeted us amongst the construction of high-risers and then I couldn't put down my camera. It's hard to believe sometimes that these places still exist in Singapore and it would be a shame if our future generation don't get to see it.

Old letterboxes.
I wonder how the post man slots the letters into them.

#22 - C.TOWN VISUALS

05102013
It has been many years since I'd last been to C.Town so when mum invited, I agreed. After getting my gear ready, we took a train down and when we alighted I was greeted with myriads of people. There were SO MANY PEOPLE! From tourists to locals, there wasn't much space to walk around but I guess that added to the atmosphere :)

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe
75 Pagoda Street, 059234
Opening hours : 9AM - 7PM

1630 : We stopped to have a quick meal before embarking on our walk. Although service was rather slow which is understandable due to the lack of staff but food was good enough for tea. I recommend the yam cake and the soon kueh :)

Upon exiting the MRT Station, I was again greeted by people and shops that sold many trinkets as well as decor which would only be bought during CNY. (It felt like new year all over again!)

Thank God for the wonderful weather where the sun brought great lighting for my shots and how it wasn't very warm that I had to hide indoors most of the time! Looking up, I noticed that it wasn't always blue skies but there were lanterns hung from building to building that decorated not only the streets but the skies and that created contrast. Therefore, you would notice that most of the shots involved lanterns.

Many stalls sold the same things and all of which little trinkets and pretty vintage stuff. For instance, glass perfume bottles with a traditional Chinese painting inside.

They also sold lighters that were made of marble and had the merlion engraved on it. You can definitely find T-shirts, sunglasses, bracelets etc. So, if you're thinking of getting a present and want to stay away from the shopping malls, then Chinatown is a good place to visit! Of course you've to bear in mind that the prices are set more for the tourists so fake an accent if you have to to get a discount haha!

While we were making our way to a pastry shop, we walked past a hotel called Rucksack. It caught my attention because of the outstanding red Chinese umbrellas that were hanging down from the ceiling as well as the the nicely vandalized wall.

I think that having the guests to write their comments/reviews on the walls made this backpacking hotel outstanding. It is so clever too because its a form of advertisement and shows how many people actually have stayed at the hotel. "A time stamp" is how I would describe this!

Our next stop was to visit a shop that sells commercial items for those in the F&B business because mum wanted to. According to her, this was a parent stall to TOTT ? While on the way there, we stopped at this old medical hall and you would think that it'll be quiet. Apparently not. There were busy packing all the herbs into papers for their orders. It didn't stop there because people started coming into the shop to buy medicine and some were waiting for their medicine.

(there were like dried bees in the stack of herbs! au natural)

When I first entered, I was put off by the strong smell of Chinese herbs but staying in there long enough, I got accustomed. In that moment, I thought that I should learn to appreciate it because it's not everyday do I get to experience this.

The architecture was also beautiful. It gives off an Asian feel mixed with European architecture. Also, a great place to have a photoshoot or filming because of the old and timeless sites like the alley ways.

After walking a bit more, we made our way back to the MRT station and headed home! It was a good experience for me while I was walking around because it felt like a whole new world with the many sights and sounds.

That concludes my entry! For more photos, go to - http://foxusphotos.tumblr.com/ ! :) :) :)

#Keith

Technically, the title DOES refer to someone however he is fictional. (weh weh wehhhh....) That was my feeble attempt to create a sound effect through text. Anyway, I'll talk about who Keith is, in a bit for now, let's get the picture party started.

---------------

On a particular Sunday, we went to Queenstown and decided to have dinner at Ikea. Sadly, it was a full house so we walked down to the hawker centre.

We had Oyster Omelette as a side dish. It wasn't up to our expectations since it was soft instead of crispy. We had our Avocado Shakes (yay!) and it was so refreshing + tasty. Y'all should head down there and try it some time. For our main course, (like so atas) we had claypot chicken rice. The pot was so friggin huge! Even the four of us big eaters couldn't finish it. With that being said, it was still well worth it :) If I'm not mistaken, it's about $23(?) for a 4pax portion.

---------------

In case I didn't mention it, I'm currently into the last week of my 3 weeks "holiday" thus the lack of posts. Just a few days back, I gathered for a quick study sesh with my homies in school. Right after, we just played around and had a "photoshoot" HAHA (I can foresee professionals smirking and thinking what an amateur I am)

^ Japanese Curry Fish Rice @ The Reel Room

I'm trying out new templates and different styles! It works, right? :)

Really really love how this photo turned out. Of course, a part of it are the beautiful people. Yes, I AM referring to myself as well ;P

They told me that I could be a wedding photographer. How sweet right?! What a compliment too. I don't even think I'm at that standard but I'll work on it. Yes, I'll take both my parents and friends advice to work at a photography studio. One day guys, one day, I'll be able to travel the world and bring my parents along w/o thinking twice about the cost. Big dreams but I'll get there. Thank you, girls x.

---------------

You've not forgotten about Keith, have you?
Anyway, idk why but out of the blue, Jesse McCartney's song Leavin popped into head. I remember I had a crush on him when I was younger. (Surely you can't resist a young, blonde guy with green eyes aye?) *clears throat* So I went on tumblr to just, yknow check how is he doing cos tumblr ALWAYS has the latest news smh. Whilst scrolling, I started seeing posts about him and this girl starring in this movie called Keith. Then I went on Youtube again to watch the trailer and get a feel of the movie.

Keith2006.jpg

IT. WAS. GOOD.
The trailer alone guys, makes me want to watch it. no, I NEED to watch it.
So that's where I need help.
Anyone knows a site where I can watch this online? If you do, please help a sista out. Much love.

I'll abruptly end this post in search for my Keith and leave you with Jesse's beautiful face.
Thanks for reading, x!

(He is asking you to help ME to find Keith. kthxbai)

#girlfromipanema

Hey y'all! How are you holding up?

Me?

I'm okay. Busy. (it's becoming an excuse I use so often. but seriously, I am.) Well, sometimes we just gotta make time for the more important things in life given that education is so heavily emphasized upon here.

I took some pictures during the time I was away. Been to the usual places like every weekend but not complaining, at least I GET to go out. Positive thinking people!

On Sunday, I gave Art Friend some love to get my scale ruler. By the way, I'll be selling my scale ruler away if I don't need it after my 15 weeks. So anyone who is interested, drop me an email! Okay so I was walking down the notebook aisle and chanced upon this exquisite leather-ish cover notebook. It was the prettiest and most classiest notebook I have ever seen. (so is the pricing mind you) I didn't get it anyway but it was pretty #justsaying (:

You might not know this about me but when I visit bookshops I'll somehow end up at the pen/marker section. It's funny how I go there and try out the pen for fun but I don't buy it. It's just satisfying to the soul. (ok not much but just a teeny bit, hehe) Anyway, this color 'Blue Violet' is exactly the one I would dye on my hair if I were to do it. It's like this dark purplish color but can easily pass off as black if under certain lighting! So so pwiddy...

Ma home gurl @kerencia
If you followed my Instagram/ Twitter, you would've known that I went on a field trip around Sunny Singapore for the #dtaartstrail where we visited different sites that are a part of Singapore's arts and culture.

P.S. The following pictures are a series of selfies. Don't scroll down if you don't wanna see them. :P

Dinner yesterday @ Cway Point for my brother's birthday! Fulfilled my sushi craving mmmm yummy

I went full blonde guys! HAHA
(no. I wouldn't dare do it! btw, I look so weird with blonde hair)

There were so many nice photographs on Instagram featuring the beautiful sunset so I had to join the bandwagon! However, pictures don't do it justice.

Oh, I just wanna thank Nuffnang for selecting me as one of the 20 bloggers to win the Iron Man 3 set! (which I tweeted a while back) However, it's a bummer I don't think I have time to collect them but it was such a pleasant surprise. (actually, I felt like I just won 4D and I literally jumped around the house. Sorry neighbours if you felt like there was construction work going on upstairs!)

Question of the Day/Night : How do you guys express your happiness?

Thanks for reading, x! :)
